The Department of Sanskrit, University of Kashmir, Srinagar is one of the oldest department of School of Languages and Literatures, established in 1983 with the sanctioned strength of one Professor and Two Assistant Professors. The Department offers PG Programme in Sanskrit comprising of four semesters through Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) with the current intake capacity of 20+6 having core discipline centric and interdisciplinary courses. The Department also offers Diploma and Certificate Course in Sanskrit with the objective to promote Sanskrit in spoken and written forms among people. The Department of Sanskrit strives to provide high quality of Education in Sanskrit. The curriculum of Sanskrit courses has been framed to make its relevance with social science and physical science through available original texts in Sanskrit. The Department is involved in conducting impactful research through I-Ph.D programme in various thrust areas of Sanskrit and Indic Studies like Kashmir Shaivism and Suffism, Indian Philosophy and Sanskrit Literature. The students have access to departmental Library where a large collection of text and reference books are housed.
